Den skumfødte Venus (the foam born venus)

Along the route: the house end of Randers municipalities administration building is shown, and with this the 4 meter high relief in ceramics from 2002 by Peter Carlsen. As the Foam Born Venus, Peter Calrsens naked back turned woman rises from the water of Gudenåen, where 3 salmons are jumping, the symbol for Randers. The myth about the roman Venus, is turned to a local context – Randers, and is turned, maybe with a shimmer in the eye to a history about a beautiful Randers girl.

The sculpture by Mogens Møller have the shape of a Greek amphora: a wase with two handles which ´for once was used as a tombstone in ancient Greece. At the top of the wase, a fine mist of water is spraing down upon the small girl, who pretects herself with an umbrella. The sculture greets people comng into Randers over the bridge, and urge people to let their fantasy run wild.

The city on the hillside at the river’s mouth

This is where Gudenåen runs into Randers fjord, the city Randers started all the way back to the Vikings. We know that there were made coins all the way back to 1086with the king “Knud the holy’s” name on them, the city went under the name Randaros back then. “Ran” means hillside and “aros” means by the outlet of the river.
